Following remarks by Messrs. Kwinter, Dunlop and Hampton, the House observed a moment of silence in respect of the tragic murders on March 3, 2005 of Cst. Peter Schiemann, Cst. Leo Johnston, Cst. Anthony Gordon, Cst. Brock Myrol, of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Pursuant to the Order of the House of March 7, 2005, the Acting Speaker (Mr. Arnott) interrupted the proceedings and put the question, and declared his opinion that the Ayes had it, and a recorded vote having been demanded,

I have received a request from the Chief Government Whip, under Standing Order 28(h), that the vote on the motion for Third Reading of Bill 167, An Act to amend the Education Act, be deferred until March 9, 2005.

Debate was resumed on the motion for Second Reading of Bill 136, An Act respecting the establishment of growth plan areas and growth plans.

After some time, pursuant to Standing Order 9, the motion for the adjournment of the debate was deemed to have been made and carried.

That the Minister of Finance be authorized to pay the salaries of the civil servants and other necessary payments pending the voting of Supply for the period commencing April 1, 2005 and ending June 30, 2005, such payments to be charged to the proper appropriation of the 2005/2006 fiscal year following the voting of Supply.

A debate arose and, after some time, the motion was declared carried.
