SPECIAL DEBATES - OPPOSITION DAY
DÉBATS SPÉCIAUX - JOUR DE L'OPPOSITION
1. Mr. Hampton - That, in the opinion of this House, the McGuinty government must recognize that during the first two years of its mandate, thousands of jobs have been lost in the forest industries of
Northern Ontario; and
Recognize that communities are being devastated by the loss of jobs and the disintegration of local and regional economies; and
Recognize that as a result of the government's hydro-electricity policies, sawmills and pulp and paper mills in Northern Ontario are forced to pay $80/megawatt or more for electricity that costs
$20/megawatt or less to generate at nearby hydro dams, whereas paper mills in competing jurisdictions like Quebec, or British Columbia are paying $30/megawatt for electricity; and
Recognize that uncompetitive electricity prices are placing Ontario's forest industries in a highly uncompetitive position; and
Immediately implement an energy strategy for northern industries and stop the electricity rate increases that put the entire Northern Ontario economy at risk. Addressed to the Premier of Ontario. To be
debated on Thursday, October 20, 2005.
SPECIAL DEBATES - WANT OF CONFIDENCE
DÉBATS SPÉCIAUX - CENSURE
Mr. Runciman - That, in the opinion of this House, since the Premier has failed to ensure the highest level of integrity for his ministers, and that, while under a cloud of scandal, his government as a
whole is sorely lacking vision and any real plan to deal with the urgent issues facing Ontarians and their pocket books, the government no longer has the confidence of this House.
