Marit Stiles moved, | Marit Stiles a proposé, |
Whereas everyone has the right to an affordable home; and Whereas the private market alone has not been able to build the affordable housing Ontario needs; and Whereas any solution to the housing affordability crisis must include public, non-profit and co-op housing options; and Whereas the Government can fast track building approvals and provide funding, low-interest loans and public land to spur housing construction in the private, public and non-profit sectors; and Whereas successive Liberal and Conservative Governments abandoned the publicly supported building programs which has provided affordable housing to Ontarians for decades, leaving a significant gap in supply; and Whereas public building programs provide good unionized jobs for Ontario's tradespeople; Therefore, in the opinion of this House, the Ontario Government should establish a new public agency, Homes Ontario, to finance and oversee the construction of affordable and non-market homes. |
