An Act respecting St. Andrew's Congregation of The United Church of Canada at Toronto
Preamble
The trustees of St. Andrew's Congregation of The United Church of Canada at Toronto have applied for special legislation to permit them to lease certain land for longer than the maximum 40-year period permitted by the Religious Organizations' Lands Act. The applicants represent that St. Andrew's Congregation of The United Church of Canada at Toronto is an unincorporated association. The applicants further represent that the applicants have a freehold interest in the land at 121 Bloor Street East, in Toronto, which is currently leased for commercial purposes. The applicants would like to have the power to lease the property for longer than the 40-year period currently permitted by law.
It is appropriate to grant the application.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Definition
1. In this Act,
"specified land" means the land municipally known as 121 Bloor Street East, in the City of Toronto, subject to a ground lease, notice of which is registered in the Land Titles Division of the Toronto Registry Office No. 66 as instrument number CT483900.
Power to lease land to 2107
2. Despite section 10 of the Religious Organizations' Lands Act, the trustees of St. Andrew's Congregation of The United Church of Canada at Toronto may lease all or any part of the specified land, or extend or renew any existing lease for all or any part of the specified land, for a term or terms, including any extensions or renewals, that will expire no later than December 31, 2107, as the trustees in their discretion consider advisable.
Commencement
3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the St. Andrew's United Church (Toronto) Act, 2008.
