665395 Ontario Limited Act, 2019
The committee met at 0900 in committee room 1.
665395 Ontario Limited Act, 2019
Consideration of the following bill:
Bill Pr7, An Act to revive 665395 Ontario Limited.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Good morning, everyone. Thank you all for coming here this morning. The Standing Committee on Regulations and Private Bills will now come to order.
There are three private bills on the agenda for consideration today. Number one is Bill Pr7, An Act to revive 665395 Ontario Limited. If I may request Mr. Crawford and Susie Young to please come forward and introduce yourselves.
Mr. Stephen Crawford: Good morning, Chair, Clerk and committee. I’d like to introduce Susie Young. Christine Hogarth, MPP for Etobicoke–Lakeshore, is unavailable to be here today, so I have the honour of introducing Susie. I’ll pass it over to her.
Ms. Susie Young: Good morning. My name is Susie Young.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): If you have any comments regarding your request.
Ms. Susie Young: The reason that I’m here: I’m here representing John Humenick and his two sons, Peter and John Humenick, who are 27 and 28 years old. They are very much interested in reviving this corporation—we actually didn’t even know it was involuntarily dissolved. They’re both entrepreneurs, and although their father has been unable to conduct any major business proposals, the boys are very eager to continue with this limited corporation. There’s a lot of intrinsic value in saying that you belong to a corporation of 32 years’ standing. As it is a limited corporation, we would be able to minimize our legal fees in order to create a new corporation.
I’m sorry; I’m very nervous.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): You don’t have to be nervous at all.
Any more comments?
Ms. Susie Young: No. The boys and their father are very eager to grow this corporation and be entrepreneurs. As Premier Ford says, it’s time to grow.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Awesome. Are there any other interested parties in attendance this morning? None?
Any comments from the government side? None. Any comments from the opposition side?
Are we ready to vote this morning? Yes. It’s time to vote.
Shall section 1 carry? Carried.
Shall section 2 carry? Carried.
Shall section 3 carry? Carried.
Shall the preamble carry? Carried.
Shall the title carry? Carried.
Shall the bill carry? Carried.
Shall I report the bill to the House? Thank you. The bill is carried and will be reported to the House.
Thank you very much. Have an awesome day.
Ms. Susie Young: Thank you very much.
Good Fortune Corporation Act, 2019
Consideration of the following bill:
Bill Pr8, An Act to revive Good Fortune Corporation.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Next on the agenda this morning is Bill Pr8, An Act to revive Good Fortune Corporation. If I can request Mr. Babikian and the applicants to please come forward.
Mr. Aris Babikian: Good morning, everyone.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Sure. Please introduce yourselves.
Mr. Aris Babikian: I’m MPP Aris Babikian of Scarborough–Agincourt. I am here to support the request to revive Bill Pr8, An Act to revive Good Fortune Corporation.
We have with us here today Yang Liu and Sunny (Shuang) Zhao. Sunny Zhao is going to make the presentation on behalf of Good Fortune.
Ms. Sunny Zhao: Good morning, everyone. My name is Sunny Zhao. I’m the accountant of Good Fortune Corp.
This company incorporated in 2008 and it closed and dissolved in 2017. The reason why they ask to revive this company is because the previous landlord overcharged the rent for some reason—maybe the wrong calculation. Recently this problem was found, and then they wrote a letter to the company to refund the rent. They ask to reopen in order to get the rent. That’s their reason.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Are there any interested parties in attendance this morning? Seeing none, are there any comments from the government side? Mr. Pang.
Mr. Billy Pang: You just have a typo there, in point four, second paragraph, second line. Is it “overcharges” or “over changes”?
Ms. Sunny Zhao: Sorry; “overcharges.”
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Okay, thank you. Any comments from the opposition side? Are we ready to vote? Awesome. Thank you.
Shall section 1 carry? Carried.
Shall section 2 carry? Carried.
Shall section 3 carry? Carried.
Shall the preamble carry? Carried.
Shall the title carry? Carried.
Shall the bill carry? Carried.
Shall I report the bill to the House? Carried.
Thank you very much. Have a great day.
Ms. Sunny Zhao: Thank you.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Is Manjusha Kinjalkar here this morning? Not yet?
We’re just going to have a 10-minute recess. The Clerk will go and look for Ms. Kinjalkar, and we’ll be back in 10 minutes.
The committee recessed from 0908 to 0917.
All Trade Quantities Inc. Act, 2019
Consideration of the following bill:
Bill Pr9, An Act to revive All Trade Quantities Inc.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): We are back in action. Awesome. The last thing on the agenda: An Act to revive All Trade Quantities Inc. If I can please request the parties to step forward and introduce yourselves.
Mrs. Daisy Wai: Good morning, Mr. Chair. My name is Daisy Wai and I am the member of provincial Parliament in the riding of Richmond Hill. I am appearing today in connection with Billy Pang, who has brought forward, at the request of a constituent of mine, Mr. Marcellinus MacNeil, who is represented today by his accountant, Ms. Manjusha Kinjalkar.
My understanding is that Mr. MacNeil is looking to revive a company entitled All Trade Quantities Inc. in order to enable him to deal with certain property. I thank you for the ability to appear before you today, and I turn it over to Ms. Kinjalkar.
Ms. Manjusha Kinjalkar: Just to give you background, Mr. MacNeil is a draftsman by profession. He does architectural drawings and everything. He is now 80 years old. Because of that, and because of his son’s ill health also, he wanted to close the company. He closed the company voluntarily, and then he came to know that there are certain huge tax refunds which are still pending—more than $20,000. He needed those funds and he went for revival of the company under Ontario legislation, but we were told that we have to come to the Legislature to get this revived. So that’s a humble request to help the person to revive the company and get the tax refund.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Thank you very much. Are there any interested parties in attendance? No? Any comments from the government side?
Mr. Will Bouma: No.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Any comments from the opposition side? Yes, Mr. Miller?
Mr. Paul Miller: I just inquire: Why did he fold it in the first place?
Ms. Manjusha Kinjalkar: Because he was almost 80 years old, and his son—in fact, he died—he had cancer—last year.
Mr. Paul Miller: Oh, okay. All right.
Ms. Manjusha Kinjalkar: So he couldn’t manage it.
Mr. Paul Miller: Okay.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Thank you very much. Are the members ready to vote? Okay, awesome.
As there is no further business, with sincere apologies for keeping you all for an extra five minutes, we adjourn the committee.
The committee adjourned at 0920.
