COMITÉ PERMANENT DE
L’ASSEMBLÉE LÉGISLATIVE
Wednesday 30 October 2019 Mercredi 30 octobre 2019
The committee met at 1306 in committee room 1.
Election of Chair
The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Valerie Quioc Lim): Good afternoon, members. This is a meeting of the Standing Committee on the Legislative Assembly. Welcome.
It is my duty to call upon you to elect a Chair. Are there any nominations? Mr. Coe.
Mr. Lorne Coe: Thank you, Madam Chair. Through you, I would nominate Kaleed Rasheed.
The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Valerie Quioc Lim): Mr. Rasheed, do you accept the nomination?
Mr. Kaleed Rasheed: Yes.
The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Valerie Quioc Lim): Are there any further nominations? There being no further nominations, I declare the nominations closed and Mr. Rasheed duly elected as Chair of the committee.
Appointment of subcommittee
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Welcome. Thank you very much, members. This afternoon, I understand that we have an appointment to a subcommittee. I understand that we have a motion regarding subcommittee membership. Mr. Coe.
Mr. Lorne Coe: Thank you, Chair, and through you—I’ll put my glasses on for this so I don’t make a mistake—I move that on the subcommittee on committee business, Ms. Singh from Brampton Centre be appointed; and Ms. Skelly replaces Mr. Bailey.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Mr. Coe has moved a motion. Any discussion or comments? If none, are members ready to vote? Shall the motion carry? All those in favour, please raise your hands. All those opposed, please raise your hands. The motion is carried.
Assignment of ministries
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): The next item on our agenda is the draft report pursuant to standing order 111(b) which you have in front of you. This report is to assign ministries and offices to policy field committees. Any discussion? Yes, Mr. Coe?
Mr. Lorne Coe: Mr. Chair, I understand through the narrative and the accompanying correspondence from the committee Clerk that this is largely procedural and that this has been the custom and approach for several years, and I ask that question through you, Chair, to the committee Clerk.
The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Valerie Quioc Lim): If I may, Chair.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Yes, okay.
The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Valerie Quioc Lim): Thank you, Chair. Yes, this is to assign ministries and offices to what we call policy field committees. It’s triggered by if there is a change in ministry names or ministry composition.
The Chair (Mr. Kaleed Rasheed): Any further discussion? I see none. Shall the draft report carry? All those in favour, please raise your hand. All those opposed, please raise your hand. The report is carried.
Shall I present the report to the House? It’s carried. So ordered.
We will now go into closed session for a briefing for the committee. We will recess to clear the room.
The committee recessed at 1310 and later continued in closed session.
