Ms. Berns-McGown — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should require Metrolinx to undertake an independent peer review of environmentally sustainable alternatives for rail corridor expansion in the Small’s Creek and Williamson ravines in conjunction with local efforts to prevent clearcutting and protect the Small’s Creek and Williamson ravines’ ecosystems, and a broader, system-wide commitment to environmental stewardship, ecologically sound transit expansion and meaningful community consultation. 2. Mr. Schreiner — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario shall immediately declare a climate and housing affordability emergency with a commitment to address both through complementary policies, including a massive expansion of affordable, infill housing development, the creation of a “15-minute neighbourhood” framework to be utilized by communities across the province, freezing urban boundaries to reduce sprawl, and the permanent protection of our farmland, wetlands, and other key environmental features. Ms. Stiles — That, in the opinion of this House, the Government of Ontario should, as part of an overall strategy to help keep schools open for in-person learning, establish an Ontario Safe Schools plan that includes effective rapid testing for students and education workers; smaller, capped class sizes and adequate spacing on school buses; regular testing and public reporting of classroom air quality; additional learning supports for students adversely impacted by the pandemic; a robust in-school vaccination plan; mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for eligible students and all education workers; and in-school distribution of masks designed to contain aerosolized particles. Mr. Gates — That, in the opinion of this House, the Ford government should, out of respect for the work done by Ontario’s nurses, PSWs and other public sector workers, immediately repeal Bill 124, Protecting a Sustainable Public Sector for Future Generations Act, 2019 and allow the negotiation of fair wages for their critically important work on behalf of the people of the province.
