2024 Speaker’s Book Award Shortlist Announced

TORONTO, July 12, 2024 – In thanking all authors and publishers for their submissions, the Honourable Ted Arnott, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, is pleased to announce the 2024 Speaker’s Book Award Shortlist:

  • On Class, Deborah Dundas, Biblioasis, 2023
  • Resilient: Surviving My Mental Illness, Liz Grace, Sister’s Ignited Media and Publishing, 2023
  • 1934: The Chatham Coloured All-Stars’ Barrier-Breaking Year, Heidi LM Jacobs, Biblioasis, 2023
  • John Turner: An Intimate Biography of Canada’s 17th Prime Minister, Steve Paikin, SutherlandHouse Books, 2022
  • Where the Falcon Flies, Adam Shoalts, Penguin Random House Canada, 2023

Promoting Ontario’s literary talent, the Speaker’s Book Award recognizes non-fiction works that highlight the province’s history and celebrate its diverse stories. Special consideration is given to books focusing on Ontario’s parliamentary heritage and on provincial political discourse.
