EXPLANATORY NOTE

Bill 220 has been enacted as Chapter 23 of the Statutes of Ontario, 2024.
The Election Finances Act is amended to continue quarterly allowances for registered parties and registered constituency associations for 2025 and 2026. The commencement of the amendments that would end such allowances is changed from January 1, 2025 to January 1, 2027.

An Act to amend the Election Finances Act
His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 (1) Subsection 32.1 (2.1) of the Election Finances Act is repealed.
(2) Subparagraph 1 ii of subsection 32.1 (5) of the Act is amended by striking out “2024” at the end and substituting “2024 or a subsequent year”.
Restoring Trust, Transparency and Accountability Act, 2018
2 Subsection 7 (2) of Schedule 13 to the Restoring Trust, Transparency and Accountability Act, 2018 is amended by striking out “2025” at the end and substituting “2027”.
Commencement
3 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4 The short title of this Act is the Election Finances Amendment Act (Quarterly Allowances), 2024.
