EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Health Protection and Promotion Act to require that the Government of Ontario shall, as soon as is practicable, implement the recommendations set out in the Rare Diseases Working Group Report, dated March 10, 2017.
Six months after the day this amendment comes into force, and every six months thereafter until all the recommendations set out in the report have been implemented, the Government shall post an update on a website of the Government of Ontario setting out which recommendations have been implemented and what steps are being taken to implement any remaining recommendations.

An Act to amend the Health Protection and Promotion Act to implement the recommendations of the Rare Diseases Working Group Report
Preamble
Ontario currently lacks a rare disease strategy. To address this, a committee was struck – the Rare Diseases Working Group – which made recommendations in a 2017 report. These recommendations have never been implemented.
Therefore, His Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 The Health Protection and Promotion Act is amended by adding the following section:
Rare Diseases Working Group Report
20.1 (1) The Government of Ontario shall, as soon as is practicable, implement the recommendations set out in the Rare Diseases Working Group Report, dated March 10, 2017.

(2) Six months after the day this section comes into force, and every six months thereafter until all the recommendations set out in the report have been implemented, the Government shall post an update on a website of the Government of Ontario setting out which recommendations have been implemented and what steps are being taken to implement any remaining recommendations.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3 The short title of this Act is the Rare Disease Strategy Act, 2023.
