EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill enacts the Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee Act, 2018. The Act requires the Minister of Health and Long-term Care to establish an advisory committee to do the following:
1. Consult with specified persons and organizations for the purpose of developing recommendations for ensuring that graduates of Ontario medical schools are matched with a residency program.
2. Consult with specified persons and organizations for the purpose of developing recommendations concerning a Canada-wide strategy to match graduates of Canadian medical schools with a residency program.
The committee is to be established within 60 days after the Bill receives Royal Assent and must report its recommendations to the Minister within eight months of its establishment. Within 60 days after receiving the committee's report, the Minister must inform the Assembly of the actions the Ministry has taken, or plans to take, with respect to the committee's recommendations.

An Act to require the establishment of a Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee
1 (1) The Minister of Health and Long-Term Care shall, within 60 days after this Act receives Royal Assent, establish an advisory committee to be known as the Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee in English and Comité consultatif pour les carrières en médecine in French.
Mandate
(2) The mandate of the committee is to do the following:
1. Consult with the following persons and organizations for the purpose of developing recommendations for ensuring that graduates of Ontario medical schools are matched with a residency program:
i. The Ontario Medical Students Association.
ii. The Canadian Resident Matching Service.
iii. The deans of Ontario's faculties of medicine.
iv. The Ontario Medical Association.
v. The Professional Association of Residents of Ontario.
vi. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.
vii. The Canadian Medical Protective Association.
viii. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
ix. The Ontario College Of Family Physicians.
x. Any other persons and organizations as the committee considers appropriate, including career counsellors and others who the committee believes may offer useful advice.
2. Consult with the following persons and organizations for the purpose of developing recommendations concerning a Canada-wide strategy to match graduates of Canadian medical schools with a residency program:
i. The Canadian Resident Matching Service.
ii. The Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada.
iii. The Canadian Medical Association.
iv. The Canadian Federation of Medical Students.
v. The Resident Doctors of Canada.
vi. The Canadian Medical Protective Association.
vii. The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
viii. The Ontario College Of Family Physicians.
ix. Any other persons and organizations as the committee considers appropriate, including career counsellors and others who the committee believes may offer useful advice.

(3) The committee may choose to complete the part of its mandate described in paragraph 1 of subsection (2) before it begins to fulfil the part of its mandate described in paragraph 2 of subsection (2), or it may choose to fulfil both parts of its mandate at the same time.
Composition of committee
(4) The committee shall be composed of persons that the Minister believes will make useful contributions to the committee's work.
Remuneration and expenses of committee members
(5) The Lieutenant Governor in Council may by regulation prescribe remuneration and payment of expenses for the committee members.
Report by committee
(6) On or before the day that is eight months after the committee is established, the committee shall report to the Minister on its work, and shall include in the report recommendations respecting the matters set out in subsection (2).
Minister to inform Assembly on actions taken, etc.
(7) On or before the day that is 60 days after the committee reports to the Minister, the Minister shall inform the Assembly of the actions the Ministry has taken or plans to take with respect to the committee's recommendations.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3 The short title of this Act is the Careers in Medicine Advisory Committee Act, 2018.
