An Act to amend the Legislative Assembly Act to establish the Standing Committee on Public Accounts for Health Care and Education

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Legislative Assembly Act is amended by adding the following section:
Standing Committee on Public Accounts for Health Care and Education
58.1 (1) A standing committee of the Assembly is established to be known as the Standing Committee on Public Accounts for Health Care and Education in English and Comité permanent des comptes publics sur les soins de santé et l'éducation in French.
Members
(2) Within the first 10 sitting days of the Legislature after the day this section comes into force, the Assembly shall, on motion with notice, appoint members of the Assembly to serve as members of the Committee for the duration of that Legislature.
Duties
(3) The Committee shall review and report to the Assembly its observations, opinions and recommendations on the portion of the annual report of the Auditor General that relates to the disbursement of public money forming part of the Consolidated Revenue Fund on the health system, the education system and the post-secondary education sector, where the latter includes all post-secondary educational institutions in Ontario.
Report
(4) The Committee shall table its report by,
(a) laying the report before the Assembly if it is in session; and
(b) depositing the report with the Clerk of the Assembly if the Assembly is not in session.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Legislative Assembly Amendment Act (Standing Committee on Public Accounts for Health Care and Education), 2013.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Legislative Assembly Act to establish a new Standing Committee on Public Accounts for Health Care and Education. The Committee is required to review and report to the Assembly on the portion of the annual report of the Auditor General that relates to the disbursement of public money on the health system, the education system and the post-secondary education sector.
