Bill 84 2006
An Act to proclaim
the month of May
as Carcinoid Cancer
and Neuroendocrine Tumours
Awareness Month
Preamble
Carcinoid cancer and related neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) are small, slow growing tumours found mostly in the gastrointestinal system, but can be seen in other parts of the body such as the pancreas and the lung. Since most of these grow very slowly, compared to other cancers, it usually takes many years before they become sizable or cause symptoms. As a rarer form of cancer, carcinoid cancer is not well known and very little discussed in the public. It is essential to raise the level of public awareness of carcinoid cancer and neuroendocrine tumours.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Carcinoid Cancer and Neuroendocrine Tumours Awareness Month
1. The month of May in each year is proclaimed as Carcinoid Cancer and Neuroendocrine Tumours Awareness Month.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Carcinoid Cancer and Neuroendocrine Tumours Awareness Month Act, 2006.
