An Act to provide
for the closure of the
Keele Valley waste disposal site
and to amend the
Waste Management Act, 1992
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Certificate of approval revoked
1. Despite the provisions of any other Act, the certificate of approval issued under the Environmental Protection Act in respect of the operation of the Keele Valley waste disposal site is revoked on December 31, 2002, without compensation to any person.
2. (1) Subsection 18 (3) of the Waste Management Act, 1992, as amended by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 26, Schedule, is repealed and the following substituted:

(3) The City of Toronto shall maintain and operate the waste management system consisting of the Keele Valley waste disposal site, in accordance with the report made under section 29 of the Environmental Protection Act by the Minister of the Environment to the clerk of the city, until December 31, 2002.

(3.1) No improvement, extension, enlargement or alteration shall be made to the waste management system consisting of the Keele Valley waste disposal site.
(2) Section 20 of the Act, as amended by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 26, Schedule, is repealed.
Commencement
3. This Act comes into force on a day to be named by proclamation of the Lieutenant Governor.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the Keele Valley Closure Act, 2001.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill revokes the certificate of approval to operate the Keele Valley waste disposal site effective December 31, 2002 and amends the provisions of the Waste Management Act, 1992 to reflect the revocation of the certificate and to prohibit any expansion of the site.
