An Act to amend
the Highway Traffic Act
to require a driver's licence
to be suspended if a motor vehicle
is used when purchasing
sexual services from a child

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. Subsection 41 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act, as re-enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 12, section 1 and amended by 1999, chapter 12, Schedule R, section 8, is further amended by adding the following clause:

(c.1) under subsection 212 (4) of the Criminal Code (Canada) committed while driving or having the care, charge or control of a motor vehicle.

Commencement

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

3. The short title of this Act is the Highway Traffic Amendment Act (Youth Protection), 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

Section 41 of the Highway Traffic Act provides for the suspension of a driver's licence of a person who is convicted of committing specified offences while using a motor vehicle. The suspension is for one year for a first conviction. The Bill adds to the list of offences in subsection 41 (1) the offence under subsection 212 (4) of the Criminal Code (Canada) relating to purchasing the sexual services of a person who is under the age of 18 years.
