An Act to amend the
Ontario Water Resources Act
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Ontario Water Resources Act is amended by adding the following section before the heading "Wells":
Standards for bottled water
34.1 No person shall sell or offer to sell for human consumption water that is in a sealed container or package or that is dispensed from a water dispenser, other than a water dispenser that is connected to a water distribution system of a municipality, unless the water meets the standards that are prescribed by the regulations.
2. Subsection 75 (1) of the Act, as amended by the Statutes of Ontario, 1993, chapter 23, section 73, 1997, chapter 7, section 7 and 2001, chapter 9, Schedule G, section 6, is amended by adding the following clauses:
(a) prescribing standards for water that is sold or offered for sale for human consumption in sealed containers or packages or from a water dispenser, other than a water dispenser that is connected to a water distribution system of a municipality;
(a.1) governing the manufacture, repair, service and sale of water dispensers, other than water dispensers that are connected to a water distribution system of a municipality;

3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the Ontario Water Resources Amendment Act, 2002.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill provides that no one may sell bottled water or water from a water dispenser, other than a water dispenser that is connected to a water distribution system of a municipality, in Ontario for human consumption unless the water meets the minimum standards prescribed by the regulations made under the Act. The regulations can also regulate water dispensers used to dispense water.
