An Act to amend the
Education Act to restore
peace in our schools
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. Section 234 of the Education Act, as re-enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 31, section 113 and amended by 1998, chapter 33, section 39 and 2000, chapter 25, section 45, is further amended by adding the following subsection:

(3.1) Regulations made under subsection (1) shall ensure sufficient flexibility to enable boards to implement the awards of arbitrators and arbitration boards appointed under the Labour Relations Act, 1995 in a reasonable manner that is consistent with this Act and the regulations made under it.
2. Section 277.10 of the Act, as enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 31, section 122, is repealed.
Commencement
3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the Education Amendment Act (Restoring Peace in Our Schools), 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends section 234 of the Education Act to ensure that regulations made under that section are sufficiently flexible to enable school boards to implement the awards of arbitrators and boards of arbitration in a reasonable manner that is consistent with the Act and the regulations made under the Act. The Bill also repeals section 277.10 of the Act.
