An Act to amend
the Building Code Act, 1992
to permit municipalities to pass by-laws
prescribing standards for the use of
fortifications, barricades and
surveillance equipment on property
within the municipality
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. Subsection 15.1 (3) of the Building Code Act, 1992, as enacted by the Statutes of Ontario, 1997, chapter 24, section 224, is amended by adding the following paragraph:
1.1 Prescribing standards for the use of fortifications, barricades and surveillance equipment on property within the municipality or within any defined area or areas and for prohibiting the occupancy or use of such property that does not conform with the standards.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Building Code Amendment Act (Biker Gang Clubhouses), 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill authorizes municipal councils to pass by-laws prescribing standards for the use of fortifications, barricades and surveillance equipment on property within the municipality. The purpose of the Bill is to permit municipalities to address concerns regarding motorcycle gang clubhouses.
