An Act to provide
for the recognition of the
long service of mine rescue personnel
The members of Ontario Mine Rescue respond when a miner is trapped or injured, or fire breaks out in a mine. These highly trained, expert personnel play a vital role in maintaining the safety of Ontario miners. It is important to recognize the many years of service given by members of Ontario Mine Rescue.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Long service awards
1. (1)The awards officer described in subsection (2) has the power to issue long service awards to persons involved in the provision of mine rescue services.
Awards officer
(2)The awards officer is the person who has the responsibilities that, on the day this Act comes into force, were assigned to the employee of the Ministry of Labour with the title Senior Mine Rescue Officer.
Commencement
2.This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3.The short title of this Act is the Mine Rescue Personnel Long Service Awards Act, 1999.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill authorizes a person specified as the awards officer to issue long service awards to persons involved in the provision of mine rescue services.
