An Act to amend the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act to prohibit partisan highway signs
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1.Section 34 of the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act is amended by adding the following subsection:
Permits restricted
(2.1)The Minister shall not issue to the Crown a permit to display a sign, notice or advertising device within 400 metres of any limit of the King's Highway under clause (2) (c), if the sign, notice or device contains the name or image of a member of the Executive Council or a member of the Legislative Assembly, or a partisan message.
Commencement
2.This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3.The short title of this Act is the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Amendment Act (Partisan Signs), 1999.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act. It prohibits the Minister from issuing to the Crown a permit to display a sign, notice or advertising device near the King's Highway if it contains the name or image of a member of the Executive Council or a member of the Legislative Assembly, or a partisan message.
