An Act to require

that flags be flown at half-mast

to honour Ontario police officers

and correctional services officers

slain in the line of duty

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Definitions

1. In this Act, "

period of mourning" means the day of the announcement of a death and the full day following; ("priode de deuil") "

provincial government buildings" includes provincial correctional facilities, police stations, buildings occupied exclusively by employees of the Government of Ontario, and the Legislative Building. ("difices du gouvernement provincial")

Flags at half-mast

2. Flags flown at provincial government buildings shall be flown at half-mast for a period of mourning to honour every Ontario police officer or correctional services officer who is slain in the line of duty.

Commencement

3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

4. The short title of this Act is the Flags at Half-Mast Act, 2000.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

The purpose of the Bill is to require that flags at Government buildings be flown at half-mast for a period of mourning to honour police officers and correctional services officers in Ontario who are slain in the line of duty.
