An Act to authorize payments to the estates of the victims of the OC Transpo tragedy
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Power to make payments
1. The Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission and The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton have the power and shall be deemed to have always had the power to make payments of $100,000 to each of the estates of the four employees of the Commission who died as a result of being shot on April 6, 1999, despite section 38 of the City of Ottawa Act, 1999 and despite any other provision of that Act or any regulation, guideline or decision under that Act.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the OC Transpo Payments Act, 2000.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The purpose of the Bill is to authorize the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Transit Commission and The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton to make payments to the estates of the employees of the Commission who were killed on April 6, 1999.
