EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Bill gives municipalities the power to make by-laws with respect to the hours during which liquor may be served in premises licensed to sell liquor under the Liquor Licence Act.

An Act to amend the Municipal Act
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Municipal Act is amended by adding the following section:
Closing time for premises serving liquor
224.1 (1) By-laws may be passed by the councils of all municipalities requiring that liquor sold or served in premises with respect to which a licence to sell liquor has been issued under the Liquor Licence Act or in a class of such premises be sold or served,
(a) only between 11:00 am and 1:00 am on the following day, with respect to every day except December 31; and
(b) only between 11:00 am and 2:00 am on the following day, with respect to December 31.
Conflict
(2) The provisions of a by-law made under this section shall prevail over any provisions under the Liquor Licence Act or under any other Act and over any terms or conditions of a licence to sell liquor issued under the Liquor Licence Act.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

3. The short title of this Act is the Municipal Amendment Act, 1996.
