Municipal Amendment Act, 1997
EXPLANATORY NOTE
This Bill makes the provisions of the Municipal Act providing for the restructuring of municipalities apply to The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and its area municipalities.

An Act to amend the Municipal Act
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Municipal Act is amended by adding the following section:
Ottawa-Carleton restructuring
25.5 (1) Sections 25.1 to 25.4 apply with necessary modifications to The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and the area municipalities that form part of The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and for that purpose,
(a) the Regional Area of The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton or any part of it shall be deemed to be a locality;
(b) The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and its area municipalities shall be deemed to be municipalities; and
(c) The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton shall be deemed to be a county and its area municipalities shall be deemed to be local municipalities.
Regulation
(2) A regulation made under subsection 25.2 (11) may be particular in its application to The Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton and its area municipalities.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Municipal Amendment Act, 1997
