Speaker's Portrait

Until the 1940s, each outgoing Speaker from the Legislative Assembly of Ontario received the chair he sat on in the Chamber as a gift of thanks for their service to the province.

From that time to today, Speakers receive the gift of their portrait instead, which is then placed on the 1st floor wall of the Legislative Building. Similar to the Premiers, Speakers may choose the artist.
