EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Occupational Health and Safety Act to prohibit employers from requiring an employee to wear footwear that is not appropriate to the protection required for the employee's work or that does not allow the employee to safely perform his or her work.

An Act to amend the Occupational Health and Safety Act with respect to footwear
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 Section 26 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act is amended by adding the following subsection:
Footwear
(4) An employer shall not require an employee to wear footwear that,
(a) is not of a design, construction and material appropriate to the protection required for the employee's work; or
(b) does not allow the employee to safely perform his or her work.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force 90 days after the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3 The short title of this Act is the Putting Your Best Foot Forward Act, 2017.
