An Act to proclaim the month of April as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month

Preamble

Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer in men between the ages of 15 and 34, with an estimated 1,000 Canadian men diagnosed with testicular cancer annually.  The incidence of testicular cancer has increased steadily over the last several decades, but the reasons for this increase are not well understood.

April is important for cancer awareness in Canada as it is recognized as Daffodil Month, the national fundraising campaign of the Canadian Cancer Society.  While Testicular Cancer Awareness Week is recognized in some jurisdictions as beginning on April 1st, it is desirable to extend the week to a month so that there is more time to bring awareness and education about the serious impacts of testicular cancer.

Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

Testicular Cancer Awareness Month

   1.  The month of April in each year is proclaimed as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.

Commencement

   2.  This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

Short title

   3.  The short title of this Act is the Testicular Cancer Awareness Month Act, 2015.

The Bill proclaims the month of April in each year as Testicular Cancer Awareness Month.
