An Act to amend the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act is amending by adding the following section:
Powers of Ombudsman
21.1 The Society, affiliated societies and the Animal Care Review Board are deemed to be governmental organizations for the purposes of the Ombudsman Act.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the OSPCA Oversight Act, 2013.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. New section 21.1 of the Act gives the Ombudsman the power under the Ombudsman Act to investigate complaints relating to the Society, affiliated societies and the Animal Care Review Board.
