An Act to celebrate the success of the Ontario wine industry by recognizing the year 2011 as its bicentennial
Preamble
The Ontario wine industry is the industry that produces wine in Ontario from fruit grown in Ontario or the concentrated juice of that fruit or from Ontario honey.
The first commercial winery to produce Ontario wine was founded by Johann Schiller in 1811. Since that time, the Ontario wine industry has grown in economic importance into one that directly employs over 6,000 people and contributes significantly to tourism and agriculture. Over the last 200 years, the Ontario wine industry has achieved world-wide recognition, particularly for wines that are designated as Vintners Quality Alliance wines.
Therefore Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Ontario wine industry bicentennial
1. The year 2011 is recognized as the bicentennial of the Ontario wine industry.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Ontario Wine Industry Bicentennial in 2011 Recognition Act, 2010.
EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill recognizes the year 2011 as the bicentennial of the Ontario wine industry.
