An Act to amend the
Health Insurance Act
to make various immunizations
insured services
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1. The Health Insurance Act is amended by adding the following section:
Immunizations
11.3 (1) Despite anything in this Act or the regulations or any other Act, but subject to subsection (2), the administration of an immunizing agent against any of the following diseases by a physician or on the order of a physician is an insured service:
1. Varicella (chicken pox).
2. Pneumococcal disease.
3. Meningococcal disease.
Appropriation required
(2) No payment shall be made under subsection (1) except under the authority of an appropriation of the Legislature.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Health Insurance Amendment Act, 2004.

EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Health Insurance Act to provide that the administration of an immunizing agent against chicken pox and pneumococcal and meningococcal disease is covered by the Ontario Health Insurance Plan.
