Bill 203 2005
An Act to proclaim
Ontario Wine Week
Preamble
Beyond any doubt, Ontario has established itself as one of the world's great wine regions. Over the past 15 years, no other industry in Ontario has progressed so quickly and made such a dramatic impact on the international stage as the Ontario wine industry. Ontario ice wine is now a global icon wine. Together, the grape and wine industry have an enormous effect on our province's economy. Every litre of Ontario wine sold in the province adds $3.88 in value to the Ontario economy, compared to $0.46 for every litre of imported wine.
This Act recognizes the efforts of Ontario grape growers and winemakers by designating the third week in June as Ontario Wine Week, a week to celebrate the wines of Ontario's four wine regions - the Niagara Peninsula, Pelee Island, Lake Erie North Shore and Prince Edward County. This week is significant because June 16, 2005 will mark the 10th anniversary of the Ontario Wine Competition and is the day that consumers can taste and celebrate the best VQA wines that Ontario has to offer.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Ontario Wine Week
1. The third week in June in each year is proclaimed as Ontario Wine Week.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3. The short title of this Act is the Ontario Wine Week Act, 2005.
