Bill 72 2003
An Act proclaiming
Physical Fitness Day
Preamble
Medical studies have consistently shown that a moderate amount of physical activity is one of the keys to a long, healthy and productive life.
Recent studies have shown, however, that the people of Ontario are living an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. The result is a decline in physical fitness and a rise in obesity across the province, particularly among children. This is a dangerous and expensive trend. It endangers our health, lowers our quality of life and costs taxpayers billions of dollars in health care premiums that would not otherwise be necessary.
The Government of Ontario recognizes the contributions made by coaches, volunteers, educators, parents and medical professionals in the promotion of physical fitness. These community leaders serve as role models in encouraging everyone to include a moderate amount of physical activity in their daily lives. The Government joins in that encouragement so that everyone may benefit not only as individuals, but also as members of a healthier society.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Physical Fitness Day
1. The first Friday in September of each year is proclaimed as Physical Fitness Day.

2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.

3. The short title of this Act is the Physical Fitness Day Act, 2003.
