Bill 43 1998
An Act respecting
Giovanni Caboto Day
Preamble
On June 24, 1997, Canadians marked the 500th anniversary to the day of the arrival on these shores of the discoverer, Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot). Giovanni Caboto was an Italian citizen of Venice with a keen interest in exploring new lands. Caboto landed on the eastern shores of Canada on June 24, 1497.
It is appropriate to recognize June 24 as Giovanni Caboto Day in Ontario to mark, not only the day of the explorer's arrival, but also the many ongoing contributions of the Italian-Canadian community to life in Ontario and Canada.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
Giovanni Caboto Day
1. June 24 in each year is proclaimed Giovanni Caboto day.
Commencement
2. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
