The purpose of the Bill is to prohibit setting or using leg-hold traps within the City of Scarborough.

An Act respecting the City of Scarborough
Preamble
The Corporation of the City of Scarborough has applied for special legislation to permit its council to pass by-laws prohibiting setting or using leg-hold traps.
It is appropriate to grant the application.
Therefore, Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
By-laws prohibiting leg-hold traps
1. Despite subsections 30 (3), (4) and (5) of the Game and Fish Act, the council of The Corporation of the City of Scarborough may by by-law prohibit setting or using traps, within the City of Scarborough, that are designed to capture an animal by seizing and holding the animal by the leg or foot.
Offence
2. Every person who contravenes a by-law passed under section 1 is guilty of an offence.
Commencement
3. This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
4. The short title of this Act is the City of Scarborough Act, 1997.
