Zanana Akande (1937- )
Zanana Akande, MPP from 1990-1994
The first Black woman elected to the Ontario legislature, Ms. Akande served as Minister of Community and Social Services from 1990-1991.
After her term as Minister, she spent two years as the Parliamentary Assistant to Premier Bob Rae. In this capacity she was actively involved in the design and implementation of the jobsOntarioYouth program which created summer employment opportunities for young Ontarians.
