This year, the Office of the Assembly (OA) turns 50. To help mark this milestone, we’re sharing a series of articles to provide a glimpse inside OA offices and divisions. The next in our series looks at the Building Services Division.
The Building Services Division was created in 2024 and is the newest division to be formed. It includes the Precinct Properties Branch and Parliamentary Food Services.
Parliamentary Food Services is responsible for all food service operations in the legislative precinct including the In Camera Dining Room, Quorum Café, and catering services. While Food Services previously existed as a branch of the Assembly up until the 1990s, the service had transitioned to external vendors. In 2023, the branch was reestablished to meet all food services needs in-house.
The Precinct Properties Branch, formerly under the Sergeant-at-Arms division, is responsible for all capital works for the Legislative Building. These are large-scale projects related to the renovation and restoration of the building and grounds. Additionally, the branch is responsible for all day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Legislative Precinct.
Some duties include:
- space planning and design
- general maintenance repairs
- heritage conservation
- fire safety and accessibility compliance
The division supports the building needs of the Legislative Assembly.
