The Speaker addressed the House:- |
Le Président s'adresse à l'Assemblée :-
I find myself once again needing to address the House on the issue of the use of electronic devices in the Chamber and in Committees. Regrettably, my attention has been drawn to the fact that photos taken from the floor of the House or from a committee, while they are meeting, have been showing up on Members’ social media accounts and elsewhere. As I have previously advised all Members, as have my predecessors in the Speaker's chair, it is never permissible for pictures to be taken from your Blackberries or other devices, here in the Chamber or in a committee.
The practice of the Speaker overlooking Members using certain devices, as long as their use is silent and unobtrusive does not extend to their camera functions. Let me lay out the rules once again: devices must always be set to silent mode, and Members may not read directly from them while they have the floor, nor may the telephone or camera functions ever be used, either here in the Chamber or in a committee. I expect all members to comply with this directive.
