ORDERS OF THE DAY

ORDRE DU JOUR

Debate was resumed on the amendment to the motion by Mr. Conway arising from the Speaker's ruling of May 8, 2003.

With unanimous consent, the following was agreed to:-

That the debate be adjourned for the purpose of permitting the Government House Leader to move a motion providing for meetings of the House on Tuesday, May 20; Wednesday, May 21; and Thursday, May 22, 2003.

That the question on the motion shall be put immediately without debate or amendment, and that the House shall then immediately resume the adjourned debate on the amendment to the motion by Mr. Conway arising from the Speaker's ruling of May 8, 2003.

With unanimous consent, on motion by Mr. Stockwell,

Ordered, That, notwithstanding Standing Order 6(a)(i), the House shall meet on Tuesday, May 20; Wednesday, May 21; and Thursday, May 22, 2003.

Debate was then resumed on the amendment to the motion by Mr. Conway arising from the Speaker's ruling of May 8, 2003.

After some time, Mr. Kormos moved,

Après quelque temps, M. Kormos propose,

That the amendment to the motion be amended by adding the following thereto:-

"and its Members."

The debate continued and, after some time,

Le débat se poursuit et après quelque temps,

Pursuant to Standing Order 9(a), the motion for adjournment of the debate was deemed to have been made and carried.

Conformément à l'article 9(a) du Règlement, la motion d'ajournement du débat est réputée avoir été proposée et adoptée.

The Deputy Speaker (Mr. Johnson) addressed the House as follows:-

Because of the unusual circumstance we currently find ourselves in, before adjourning today I would like to advise Members of the procedures for tomorrow morning's meeting of the House.

Our Standing Orders are very clear in providing that the only reason this place should meet before 1:30 of the clock on a Thursday is to deal with private members' public business. Tomorrow, of course, happens to be such a day when the House will begin meeting at 10:00 a.m.

Therefore, at 10 o'clock until noon tomorrow the House will meet to deal with private member's ballot items 5 and 6 standing in the names of Ms. Churley and Mr. Gilchrist. Then at 1:30 of the clock, when we come back to this place, we will immediately go into the debate on the amendment to the amendment to Mr. Conway's motion as it sits today, with the Member for Northumberland properly having the floor at 1:30.

Please note that this is based on the process the House followed on January 22 and 23, 1997 in identical circumstances.

The House then adjourned at 6:00 p.m.

À 18 h, la chambre a ensuite ajourné ses travaux.
