EXPLANATORY NOTE
The Bill amends the Residents’ Bill of Rights set out in section 3 of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 by adding the right of residents not to be separated from their spouses upon admission but to have accommodation made available for both spouses so that they may continue to live together.

An Act to amend the Long-Term Care Homes Act to provide spouses with the right to live together in a home
Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:
1 Subsection 3 (1) of the Long-Term Care Homes Act, 2007 is amended by adding the following paragraph:
20.1 Every resident who requires care and is admitted to the home to receive that care has the right upon admission not to be separated from their spouse and to have appropriate accommodation made available for both spouses to live together in the home.
Commencement
2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
Short title
3 The short title of this Act is the Long-Term Care Homes Amendment Act (Till Death Do Us Part), 2019.
