A Short History of Ontario covers the entire history of the province from settlement by the Aboriginal peoples until 1985. The text is mainly political history, with an emphasis on governments and the politicians who graced Queen’s Park, but with a considerable amount of economic history and some military, constitutional, and social history. The book covers the geographical setting, exploration and settlement, the founding of Upper Canada, the Rebellion and Responsible Government, Confederation and the founding of Ontario, and political developments including federal-provincial relations and social issues such as prohibition.
