Andrea Horwath (1962- )
Winning her party's 2009 leadership race, Ms. Horwath was the first woman to lead the New Democratic Party of Ontario. As a member of the opposition, she held numerous Critic portfolios including: Intergovernmental Affairs, Economic Development and Trade, Children and Youth Services, Pensions, Women's Issues, Wokers Compensation, Occupational Health and Safety, Municipal Affairs, and Government and Consumer Services. Following the 2018 Ontario election, she became leader of the Official Opposition.
Ms. Horwath worked closely with her community before entering politics - teaching and training workers in Hamilton, organizing a local legal clinic, and developing co-op housing in Welland.
